Sometimes it’s hard to believe, but you have to start thinking about your senior photos when you’re just a junior! How wild is that?! If you have a photographer in mind that you would like to photograph your senior photos, don’t wait reach out!
There’s a couple of very important questions that can help decide which season is best for you and that is:
- When is your yearbook photo due?
- What is YOUR vision for your senior photos?
Most of the Dane County area schools have a deadline between October and November. Please also keep in mind in the fall there could be a long turnaround time for final photos due to the high volume of sessions photographers have in the fall. Sarah Paige Studios gallery delivery time is typically 2-4 weeks during the fall season.
As for your vision, what do you see? Do you want wildflowers in the summer months, or tall wispy grasses in the fall? Do you want a more urban feel or to embrace the Wisconsin life of being in the country.
Monthly Breakdowns
June: Lots of bright green’s from trees and grasses, spring flowers may still be in bloom.
July: Still lots of greens but wildflowers are starting to make their appearances, lake are usually warm enough to go in if you’re looking for a water approach!
August: The wildflowers are blooming, gardens are full, the wispy grasses are starting to get some height to them.
September: The greens are a little more subtle, but fall is starting to appear, some trees are starting to turn and more grasses are turning brown.
October: The fall colors are usually popping, the greens are becoming muted

Here are some common FAQs for when it comes time to booking your senior session!
What time do senior sessions take place?
More often than not, senior sessions are photographed in the evenings. Sometimes they can take place during the morning but that is location dependent.
Summer sessions typically take place anywhere from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. because the sun sets so late! Perfect for if you play sports or have activities you can’t miss, summer might be your best bet!
With Fall Sessions, the sun begins to set earlier, so keep that in mind as you think about how soon or late in the fall to book. Sunset in the fall ranges anywhere between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. so sessions typically start around 4:00ish depending on your date.

Where does the session take place?
The location can be anywhere you want it to be! A favorite spot growing up, downtown in your city, out on a farm, the sky’s the limit! I can make recommendations on a location as well, but these are your pictures, so it’s ultimately up to you!
Please note that after you decide on your location, we can finalize the time of your session based on how the sun is at your location.
If you find a location you like and it requires a permit, you are responsible for obtaining the permit for the day and time of our agreed upon session.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions regarding senior photo sessions!
